Monte Carlo Rally

Just announced – October 2010 – Glasgow is a starting point for the 2011 rally. In late January, competitors will leave from Blythswood Square in Glasgow to travel to Monte Carlo. Adelaides Guest House is the nearest guest house to the start point so we look forward to welcoming competitors or spectators on a first come first served basis.

Internet Access

We now have internet access available for guests in our reception lounge. We would love to make wi-fi internet access available throughout our building and especially in our guests room but as a very old building our walls are extremely thick in places so reception is unpredictable and certainly not reliable. (You can of course use your own lap top and attach it to our cabling). So our apologies but as you use the access in our reception lounge it does allow you to pass the time of day with our friendly reception staff !

Our staff would also appreciate it if guest access is limited to the hours of 7am until 11pm so that our overnight staff have time for some rest!

Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum

Reopened in 2006 after a £28m refurbishment, the Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum is certainly worth a visit when in Glasgow. Only a ten minute bus ride from Adelaides, it is another jewel in Glasgow’s crown – not to be missed. In 2007 it was among the top 5 most visited British Museums.

Mitchell Library and Tracing Your Ancestors

For those interested in their ancestors, Glasgow’s Mitchell Library is a marvellous starting point. Adelaides Guest House is only 3 blocks from the Mitchell and is ideally placed for those wanting to research their family history. The Library is also a rich source of information on Robert Burns, has a special section on puppetry, and a new cafe facility.

Charles Rennie Mackintosh is celebrated as one of the most creative figures of the early 20th century – read more about his work, his buildings and events celebrating his life on the web site of the CRM Society and a celebratory Charles Rennie Mackintosh web site. His newly refurbished Queens Cross Church is within easy distance of Adelaides.

Glasgow’s Festivals

Each year, a wide range of Festivals takes place in Glasgow – Celtic Connections in January, Aye Write the Glasgow Comedy Festival in the Spring, the Glasgow Art Fair in George Square in April and in June the West End Festival.

In July the increasingly popular Glasgow River Festival and the International Jazz Festival take place. While in August we welcome pipers from all over the world to the World Pipe Band Championship and the associated Piping Live Fesival.
